Determining Your Hat Size

Surprisingly, we’ve found that sometimes hats vary in size quite a bit depending on styles and brands, so we think it is best to have you come in and not just be measured, but actually try on hats to find your perfect fit. If you are not certain about size, or are between sizes, we suggest you buy the larger size. We carry several brands that have size adjusters inside the hat. We also carry terry cloth and cotton twill inserts that not only help you find the perfect fit, but protect your hat from sweat and oil from your skin and hair. If you have a hat that’s too large, bring it in and we’ll see if we can make it more comfortable for you.

If you own a hat that’s become too tight, it’s not surprising. Hat’s can shrink a bit over time or a change in hairstyle can make a hat tighter. It it’s too tight, it is possible to have it stretched with a special wooden hat stretcher. To maintain the stretch, we recommend you purchase your own hat stretcher and keep it in your hat when you’re not wearing it so it won’t shrink back.

The typical way to measure your head is to place a tape measure about one-half inch above your eyebrows where your hat will rest and carefully wrap the tape around your head to get an accurate measure without twisting or slipping the tape high or low. Some people find it easier to place a string around their head and then measure the string with a ruler. The chart below will help you determine your head size.
